2010 BALTICS TOUR
Thursday 22 July - Sunday 1 August
The choir has been invited to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in July 2010, countries renowned for their active singing tradition. Concerts are planned to be given in St Nicholas’s Church Tallinn, the Elizabeth Church in Pärnu, St Casimir’s Church Vilnius, and the Cathedrals of Kaunas and Riga. The choir is well known in these countries through its legacy of superb recordings with London orchestras and the Royal Opera House, and through links made during a successful tour of Estonia and Latvia in 2002.
Touring, however, does not come cheap, and we need to find £15,000 to supplement the money which the boys and parents need to provide - to see what we achieved for the New Zealand tour, click here. The boys themselves are actively involved in the fundraising, whether through busking, promoting their own concerts or engaging in activities such as sponsored runs, silences and so on. However, we do need to cast the net wider than the boys’ immediate contacts, and this is where you may be able to help us, whether through making a donation on the choir’s Justgiving site (www.justgiving.com/tiffinboyschoir-tour), taking an advertisement in the gala concert and tour brochure, or through connecting us with a trust fund.
The most high profile of our fundraising activities will be a gala concert at Southwark Cathedral on Thursday 8th July, and a tour programme/brochure is being produced for this concert and for the tour itself. Check back regularly for details of other concerts and events. We anticipate major press interest both in the UK and the Baltic States (our tour of New Zealand received extensive coverage, including a broadcast on Radio New Zealand and a feature in BBC Music Magazine) as we endeavour to show the outstanding quality of what can be achieved by children in the state sector.
